Many other NGOs have worked in the affected area and interacted with the
affected families, shared their moments of grief, rendered not only medical
treatment but also required psychological counseling to live with the
tragedy and instilled new hope in their lives.
The NGOs/VAs have also approached the State Government with offers
to construct houses for the Tsunami affected families that have lost their
houses. Some of the agencies have also offered to construct hospitals,
community halls, Anganwadis, internal roads etc.
Following the Tsunami attack, many NGOs and Voluntary Agencies have come
forward and actively participated in rendering various types of services
in the Disaster Zone as well as in the relief camps. They offered help
to the district administration by contributing various materials to be
distributed among the Tsunami affected families and also lent invaluable
services to the Tsunami affected families directly.
The District Collector has taken coordinating meetings of all the NGOs
so as to make the best use of the help rendered by the NGOs/VAs. A liaison
officer was also appointed to coordinate the efforts of all the NGOs/VAs
and a Revenue Subsidiary Office (RSO) has been opened in Alappad Panchayat
to render necessary help to the NGOs/VAs.
