Considering the gravity of the situation and the frequent threats of renewed
Tsunami attack, the District Administration has accepted the help offered
by the Army.
The army was given the difficult task of managing two of the biggest camps
at Ochaira. Further, they were also entrusted with the assignment of managing
another two sensitive camps that have accommodated the kith and kin of
the deceased.
The Army officials and the government officers in charge of the relief
camps managed these four camps together. Psychological counseling has
also been arranged to bring them to normalcy from the trauma they suffered
due to loss of their near and dear.
Based on the request of State Government, the Army has also started operating
a Junkar Service between Ayiramthengu (Mainland) and Azeekkal of Alappad
Panchayat so as to enable the people of Alappad Panchayat to have better
connectivity with the main land.
